The working environment David Sheppard created for the Marquis of Bath remains one of his most celebrated pieces. The desk was designed as a central part of Lord Bath's penthouse located high up in the family's ancestral home, Longleat. The Bath desk is the ultimate in power seating, incorporating IT, filing and its own unique integrated lighting system. Using Burr Oak from the Longleat estate, David Sheppard created a desktop area of some 7 square metres in a crescent form. The magnificent desk is balanced on pyramids of illuminated glass and supported by a huge shield, itself made of steel and coloured by heat treatment before having coats of arms etched into its face. The integrated wire management cleverly links the desk discreetly with all IT services. Since completing the commission, David Sheppard has been asked to design many more pieces for the penthouse including a 3 metre high audio-visual tower and bespoke wardrobes. |
